A CDM Coordinator must be appointed for any project that is notifiable to the HSE. Our experienced construction safety consultants can provide a service to cover all your needs, providing not just CDM Co-ordinator duties but site visits, sub-contractor vetting approval and pre-qualification (PQQ). If you wish we can act as your partner and work as an integrated member of your team - please contact us for a costing.
In general, for notifiable projects, CDM Coordinators are responsible for advising and assisting clients to comply with their duties under the regulations, in particular our safety consultants will ensure the project is properly managed and that competent designers and contractors are appointed. To this end, as the CDM Coordinator we must ensure the client is aware of their CDM duties.
Before construction work begins, our CDM Coordinator will:
- Collect pre-construction information and advise the client when surveys are needed to fill information gaps
- Provide relevant information to designers and contractors and coordinate the flow of information between them and the client.
- Notify the HSE
- Coordinate health & safety aspects for the work of designers, planners and others associated with the project.
- Advise the client on suitability of the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan and on adequacy of site welfare facilities.
- On behalf of the client, collect the information and prepare the Health & Safety File for handover at completion of the construction work.
- Advise the client on the adequacy of management arrangements for the project, including such aspects as:
- Time available for the principal contractor to plan and mobilise for construction work.
- Managing late design changes
- Managing co-operation between contractors
- Managing site induction, training, supervision and consultation with workers
- Check that designers are complying with the regulations and that the different design elements work safely together. This aspect can best be achieved through regular design reviews to examine:
- Buildability
- Maintenance
- Usability
