CDM Coordinator
A CDM Coordinator must be appointed for any project that is notifiable to the HSE. Our experienced construction safety consultants can provide a service to cover all your needs, providing not just CDM Co-ordinator duties but site visits, sub-contractor vetting approval and pre-qualification (PQQ). If you wish we can act as your partner and work as an integrated member of your team - please contact us for a costing.
In general, for notifiable projects, CDM Coordinators are responsible for advising and assisting clients to comply with their duties under the regulations, in particular our safety consultants will ensure the project is properly managed and that competent designers and contractors are appointed. To this end, as the CDM Coordinator we must ensure the client is aware of their CDM duties.
Before construction work begins, our CDM Coordinator will:
- Collect pre-construction information and advise the client when surveys are needed to fill information gaps
- Provide relevant information to designers and contractors and coordinate the flow of information between them and the client.
- Notify the HSE
- Coordinate health & safety aspects for the work of designers, planners and others associated with the project.
- Advise the client on suitability of the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan and on adequacy of site welfare facilities.
- On behalf of the client, collect the information and prepare the Health & Safety File for handover at completion of the construction work.
- Advise the client on the adequacy of management arrangements for the project, including such aspects as:
- Time available for the principal contractor to plan and mobilise for construction work.
- Managing late design changes
- Managing co-operation between contractors
- Managing site induction, training, supervision and consultation with workers
- Check that designers are complying with the regulations and that the different design elements work safely together. This aspect can best be achieved through regular design reviews to examine:
- Buildability
- Maintenance
- Usability
Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans

Our safety consultants work with a number of construction-related businesses to help them address these issues and provide the following services at a surprisingly low cost, plus, we can work transparently so that the client and other stakeholders see all of these tasks as internal to your business.
- Pre-Construction Safety Documents
- Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans (CPHSP)
- Site safety audits and reports (hard copy and electronic 24 hour turn around)
- On site toolbox training talks
- Attendance at pre-contract and site safety meetings
- Development of site-specific method statements
- Fire safety plans
By working together we can help ensure that your staff have the time to deliver project on time and on budget. If you'd like to know how much outsourcing might cost just call us with a project outline.
Development of Specific Method Statements
You will already have a number of risk assessments and method statements applicable to your normal work, but what about that new project, difficult but rewarding contract or high-profile client you have to work for?
By working closely with your dedicated safety consultant, you can overcome all these problems and leave your staff to continue doing what they do best. Whatever your needs we will probably have 'been there and done that', so give us a call to find out how we could help.

Fire Safety Plans
There are around 11 fires each day on construction sites in the UK. By creating a Fire Safety Plan you will be helping to minimise the likelihood of this happening to you with its potentially devastating loss, bad publicity and disruption.
We will put into place a plan specific to your site which covers highly flamable liquids and gases storage, permit to work systems, evacuation procedures and so on. This can be an integrated part of our support through CDM Coordination and site safety visits or as a stand alone service, contact one of our construction safety consultants on 01453 800100 to find out more and obtain a competitive quote.
Site Waste Management Plans
The construction and demolition industry annually produces three times the amount of waste generated by all UK households combined. Site Waste Management Plans allow better waste management practices, help to reduce the amount of waste produced and identify best environmental disposal options. Implementing a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) can reduce costs (increasing business profits) and maximise resource efficiency.
Do I need a Site Waste Management Plan? The SWMP Code of Practice was launched on 8th July 2004 to help the construction industry face the major challenge of changes in waste management legislation. Since 6th April 2008 it has been mandatory for all sites or projects with an estimated cost over £300,000 (ex VAT) to have a site waste management plan in place.
We can work with you to assess risks and produce cost-effective solutions for all developments producing a realistic plan ensuring your
construction waste is managed as effectively as possible implementing a SWMP that complies with the current Code of Practice, to:
- Improve your resource efficiency
- Decrease project costs
- Improve re-use and recycling rates
- Reduce site accidents
- Guarantee compliance with future legislation
- Protect construction programme
We will carry out a full waste audit to develop a SWMP that includes advice on how to reduce waste and identify best disposal routes.
Toolbox Training Talks
Our experienced safety consultants can run short toolbox training talks for your staff, covering key safety issues and recording all attendees.

Construction Site Safety Audits
Construction site safety audits are carried out nationally by our team of experienced and qualified construction safety consultants. We cater for all areas of work including pre start construction site audit inspection through to in progress and post handover audits. All audits are completed and emailed either while on site or a later stage, depending on your requirements.
All site safety audit inspection reports contain areas observed, general guidance for failings and a check list of what to do and an acceptable time frame in which to do it. The report is completed with an overall risk rating of the area and can be despatched the same day to your offices. Your construction safety consultant will always discuss the findings with your contact on site to ensure that any risks are being addressed before the site safety audit even reaches your desk.
We will produce a written site safety audit report covering the following areas, with each area ranked on compliance;
- Welfare
- Accidents and first aid
- Risks to the public
- Fire Precautions
- Housekeeping / Site tidiness
- Safe Access
- Electrical safety
- PPE
- Portable Tools and Equipment
- COSHH risk
- Working at Height

Guaranteed approval to contractor assessment schemes for a fixed cost!
Our chartered health & safety consultants can assist you in any approvals process, not just CHAS but also EXOR, Constructionline, Britsafe, Safety Contractor, National Britannia, Link-up, Index and many others.
Background
Although many see registration on the CHAS assessment process as easy and straightforward, this is usually far from the truth. The CHAS website states: "Four out of five small and medium sized contractors will fail their first assessment - an indication of general poor compliance in SME's." (May 2008)
Our experienced safety consultants work with clients before they make a CHAS application. As clearly stated on the front page of the application form, those with a responsibility for Health & Safety should complete the form. We have significant experience in making successful CHAS applications on behalf of our clients and all our consultants are CHAS-approved assessors.
We can complete your entire application form and supporting documents, or just advise and support you with it - how much we do is entirely up to you.
By using our services and support you can reduce the burden and streamline your entire application. We can also advise you on any additional training requirements you may need. All of our services are offered on a fixed-price basis.
Please see this section for more detail; contractor approval schemes consultancy assistance
