Mentoring and staff development
Training courses are valuable in developing staff competence and building the skills necessary to implement health and safety. However, there comes a time when you must leave the classroom and apply what has been learnt and this oten raises another raft of questions on how you might implement safety in the real world.
Mentoring allows an experienced consultant to attend site and work with a single person or small group to answer the questions which arise and give staff the confidence to tackle issues and approach staff and contractors who may be taking unacceptable risks.
From noise exposure to display screen equipment workstation assessments we can arrange for a highly experienced safety consultant to work with you to turn theory into practice. Beyond this we can offer support, advice and assistance through our helpline allowing you to tap into a wealth experience in managing safety. We have worked with all types of organisation from nuclear power stations to local authorities. If you would like to discuss mentoring further please call us on 01453 800100 to arrange a meeting.
Fire Risk Assessment
We carry out fire risk assessments for a vast range fo business clients. We are well versed in handling the needs of large buildings with complex occupancy arrangements and we can produce procedures and documentation which is able to cope with dynamic occupancy.
We will evaluate the risks fully and format an assessment and fire management document which leaves you secure in the knowledge that risks are being managed effectively.
Call us on 01453 800100 to discuss our approach and to hear about some of the novel solutions to the difficutlies of fire management which we have implemented for other organisations.
Indoor Air Quality and SBS
Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a term referring to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants.
IAQ can be affected by microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), gases (including carbon monoxide, radon, volatile organic compounds), particulates, or any mass or energy stressor that can induce adverse health conditions. Indoor air is becoming an increasingly more concerning health hazard than outdoor air.
Determination of IAQ involves the collection of air samples and monitoring human exposure to pollutants. Our expert safety consultants are able to visit your premises to make these measurements either directly on the day of the sampling or through the use of datalogging instruments we can gather information over a longer period.
We are skilled in monitoring almost any airborne contaminant (see the industrial section for details of monitoring for wood dusts, welding fumes and similar). We will issue a full report and exploration of the issues involved plus give solid advice on how to address and ameliorate the issues and have worked in the past with partners in HVAC to address and solve the problems. If you would like to know more or talk through your concerns with an expert please call us on 01453 800100.
Safety panels and safety committees
Involving your staff in the management of health and safety issues is something which all organisations aim to do. Within local govenment this typically takes the form of safety panels and committees. We attend these meetings for several reasons;
- to act as an independent voice on health and safety;
- to offer a view on how problems are overcome within similar environments;
- to give updates on new and changing regulations / best practice;
- to present the findings of reports and audits which have been completed.
Our experience and contact with other businesses and authorities makes our attendance a valuable addition. Couple this with the opportunity to carry out briefings on safety issues and training and development or mentoring with those involved in safety management and we can find that staff become keen to attend, learn more and do more to spread the health and safety message.
If you think you could benefit from these services please call us on 01453 800100 to discuss your needs with a safety consultant experienced in working within local government.
