Ensuring safety around asbestos
You’re already aware that asbestos is present in many buildings – perhaps in your own – but what are your duties of care to those staff who may come into contact with it?
Whether you're considering your own staff or those of the contractors you employ, you are legally obliged to make sure that they have had enough training to be aware of the risks and know how to control them.
Training is a legal requirement
Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR 2006) puts a requirement on employers to ensure that their staff have undergone suitable asbestos awareness training. This is to ensure that they are aware of the dangers they may face and also the procedures they must follow if working in the vicinity of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).
Typical groups requiring asbestos awareness training are as follows:
- General maintenance staff
- Electricians, plumbers & gas fitters
- Painters & decorators
- Construction & demolition workers
- Joiners and plasterers
- Computing & telecommunications engineers
- Heating & ventilation engineers
- Roofers
- Architects & building surveyors
- Fire & burglar alarm installers
Courses can be tailored to each and every organisation, which allows us to design a course to exactly match both your site and employees' needs.
How can I arrange training?
