Do your staff need training before taking a test for a CSCS card?
If you are in the construction industry - and even if you aren’t - the likelihood is that you’ve heard of CSCS cards (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). There are over 1.4 million card holders - and most of the major construction companies, as well as other large businesses such as Asda and Sainsburys, now insist that contractor personnel have the cards as proof of their competence.
The CSCS 'bible'
Every applicant you register on the scheme will receive a book which is split into 16 sections. The first 15 sections are applicable to all applicants, with the 16th section for supervisors and managers. This document should contain all that you need to know, but it’s fair to say that some applicants would benefit from a helping hand.
To train or not to train?
The best person to make the decision is you. Based on your knowledge of your own staff, decide if a helping hand might make the difference between success and failure. The test has recently been revised, so if you are learning from the book please make sure that you have Version 8.
