Do I need a Fire Risk Assessment if I already have a Fire Certificate?

Fire Risk Assessments need to be undertaken (Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997) for your workplace (to consider employees and others who may be affected). This approach is like that of normal risk assessments but is designed to cover only fire hazards.

A Fire Certificate used to be applied for if there were more than 20 people at work or more than 10 people elsewhere than on the ground floor  However Fire Certificates are no longer in existence following introduction of the Regulatory Reform Order (RRO) in 2004.  The contents of the fire certificate will remain valid but it is your responsibility as an employer to ensure that an adequate risk assessment is carried out by a competent person, such as one of the consultants at C&G Safety & Environment Limited.
